Finally! We’ve been granted a reprieve from the blistering hot summer. My family and friends in Texas have been enduring oppressive three-digit temperatures this summer, as I made my escape to Canada. Our summer was so, so enjoyable. Just warm enough to occasionally break a sweat, but not so hot that I thought I’d be able to fry an egg on my dashboard. Although, I must admit I chuckled a bit when “heat advisories” were issued up here for temps of 33-35 degrees Celsius (mid-90s in Fahrenheit). It’s all relative though, right? Us Texans may not think the mid-90s warrant a heat advisory, but I’m fairly certain my Canadian neighbors will be laughing and pointing the first time I step out of my house in a full-length parka, toque, and scarf the first time the temps drop into the 40s. Ha!
But last week, it got close! It dropped into the 50s and 60s here, which meant my entire summer wardrobe was immediately moved to our guest closet and replaced with sweaters, flannels, fleece, and scarves. Also, I made an emergency run to Yankee Candle to take advantage of their timely “Buy 1, Get 1 Free” sale, which allowed me to restock my candle cabinet (everyone has a candle cabinet, right? That’s a totally normal thing, right??) with some of my favorite delicious autumnal scents like Sugared Cinnamon Apple, Apple Pumpkin, Be Thankful (a returning favorite) and Crisp Fall Night. I also snagged a French Vanilla and a Citrus and Sage, two all-season staples in my house. And, as you can see from the photo, I immediately started burning my Sugared Cinnamon Apple candle the minute I got it home, so by the time I took this photo the next day, it’s already almost half gone! The struggle is reeaal.
My other favorite thing about Fall is… drumroll please… PUMPKINS! I mean, whose isn’t?! And I’m talking pumpkins everywhere. I also think this time of year’s décor is the perfect collaboration with my Mackenzie-Childs collection. I love combining the classic courtly check pattern with oranges, reds, browns, and golds to achieve a classic, classy fall/Halloween look! Here are some of my recent accent additions around our home.
The painted wooden sign in my own design, “Happy Harvest” pumpkin is from Hobby Lobby, glass lantern vase is from Pottery Barn (small), and iron lamp is an antique store find from Johnson City, TX.
The dried flowers and corn husks are from Hobby Lobby and the decorative platter is the Mackenzie-Childs Courtly Check Serving Platter.
Pumpkin is a faux, carve-able pumpkin from Hobby Lobby, the glass lantern vase is from Pottery Barn (large), and the candle is Circle E’s “Sandlewood & Spice.”
These two adorable pumpkins are also from Hobby Lobby – can you tell yet what my favorite stores are?! The color scheme on these match my Mackenzie-Childs stuff perfectly, do they not? I couldn’t pass these babies up when I saw them.
So there you have it, my house is starting to feel fall-ish, it certainly smells like I can bake in here, and we are ready for the cooler weather! Feeling Thankful, Grateful and Blessed. xx
